Hi! Jan Willem and Mateusz here, the two people behind Baobab. Together, we have over 30 years in coffee. Jan Willem running ten cafés across the Netherlands last 20 years, Mateusz working in coffee for a decade. That gave us something rare: time.
Three years to roast, test, and refine without rushing anything to market.
We roast inside a botanical garden surrounded by centuries-old trees, rare plants, and the kind of quiet that makes you slow down.
But there's something more personal here. We're both drawn to nature and the roastery inside a botanical garden isn't just a good concept. For us, it feels like the only place we could have done this.
And we're on a mission to change the way people think about decaf.
For years, we searched for a good decaf. The market had one answer: take it or leave it. We think that's worth changing. Working in cafés, we talked to hundreds of guests who ordered decaf for their health, during pregnancy, to cut back on caffeine, or simply to sleep better. But too often, poor quality or lack of choice pushed them towards regular coffee or tea instead. And that never made sense to us. Decaf drinkers are arguably the purest coffee lovers. They're there for the taste alone.
