Kenya | Kirinyaga
This vibrant and expressive Kenya is grown in Kirinyaga, on the slopes of Mount Kenya, where volcanic soils and an altitude of 1,600–1,700 m create some of the finest coffee-growing conditions. The cherries come from around 1,550 smallholder farmers of the Thirikwa Farmers' Cooperative Society, growing mostly the SL28 and SL34 varieties.
Cherries are hand picked in the morning and processed the same day: pulped, fermented, washed, then dried on raised beds.
The processing takes place at Gakuyu-ini wet mill, recognized as one of the best-paying factories for farmers in Kenya. To support accessibility, the wet mill has established cherry collection centers for farmers who live too far to deliver directly on foot.
